Student Learning Experiences
Learning process in general
In general, the process of implementing learning in each course is carried out with active learning and student-centred learning. In every learning process, students are stimulated to have the courage to take the initiative, learn to express opinions and arguments, and try to train critical and creative thinking skills. Lectures at each meeting are well prepared because before the lecture period begins, the course lecturer has prepared a Semester Learning Plan / RPS by adjusting the applicable curriculum in the study programme.
Learning in campus environment is carried out by utilising various facilities owned by the mathematics education study programme such as classrooms, learning media laboratories, computer laboratories and microteaching rooms. Each room is functioned according to its respective uses to support student competence in accordance with the achievement of graduate competencies in the UNS Mathematics Education study programme. Such as the use of media laboratories to develop student competence in designing, making and using learning media. The use of computer laboratories to provide student learning experiences in technology-based courses in accordance with the curriculum such as programming algorithms, web-based mathematics learning, computational mathematics, multimedia in mathematics learning and other relevant courses. In addition, learning in the microteaching room is carried out to provide learning experience to students related to their competence in teaching mathematics in small classes which will later become a provision for students when facing the world of work in the field of education.
In addition to on-campus learning, there are several learning activities that are carried out independently outside the campus. This activity aims to introduce early learning practices in schools, school management, and curriculum implementation in schools. Some of these activities include Internships and Independent Studies, Campus Teaching, student participation in the SEAMEO Regional Centre for QITEP in Mathematics (SEAQiM) and various other activities that support student learning experiences.
One of the activities that many students participate in is the Kampus Mengajar. Kampus Mengajar is a programme that provides opportunities for students to learn outside the classroom for 1 (one) semester by becoming teacher partners to innovate in the development of creative and innovative learning strategies and models in the target education unit, with a focus on improving students’ literacy and numeracy skills in target schools. By participating in the teaching campus, students can be directly involved as partners of teachers, principals, and education personnel in the target schools in developing and implementing learning strategies in schools, contributing directly as agents of change in Indonesian education, honing leadership skills, problem solving, communication skills, analytical thinking, creativity, and innovation directly from the field, and adding to the network of friends with fellow students in the placement school. Students who participate in the teaching campus will get recognition equivalent to 20 credits in certain courses.
