Teaching is everything a teacher does to support students to learn, including how to carry out interactive learning in the classroom and all the activities that arise during learning. In teaching, the teacher is in charge of encouraging students to solve problems, answering students’ questions, and checking students’ work.
Before teaching the teacher needs to understand what will be learned and how to teach it. Then, through a series of activities, students receive specific instructions and opportunities to learn, although the learning itself ultimately remains part of what students have to do.
Specifically in mathematics learning, Ball.D.L (2008) introduced the term Mathematic Knowledge for Teaching (MKT), which is the mathematical knowledge needed in carrying out the duties as a mathematics teacher. The focus in the discussion of MKT is on what tasks must be carried out by teachers in teaching and the mathematical analysis needed in its implementation.
This community service activity is intended to assist teachers to identify MKT and implement it in a learning design, especially on the subject of fractional numbers through material analysis and teacher teaching experience.
The experience of participating in these activities is expected to encourage mathematics teachers to improve the learning process continuously through efforts to improve teacher competence, especially in relation to MKT.
